Diversity Training by QSI Consulting

Diversity training is a basic part of a diversity goal and it represents the opportunity for your organization to inform and educate senior management and staff about diversity. The reason behind diversity is not only to increase awareness and understanding of workplace diversity issues, but also to develop concrete skills among your staff that will facilitate enhanced productivity of and communications among all associates.  In building a case for diversity training, iIt is important to note that training alone cannot resolve other diversity-related issues or challenges that may exist in your organization. However, diversity training does play a vital role in the success or failure of your overall diversity initiatives. In addition, diversity training should not become a replacement for organizational diversity initiatives, but to become a component thereof.  Below are some basic guidelines for your organization.

          1) Identify and determine your training objective(s)
          2) Develop a broad corporae diversity strategy
          3) Plan your diversity initiatives well
          4) Perform a detailed needs analysis
          5) Use a participative model
          6) Test the validity of the training initiative before rolling out
          7) Create a balanced internal and external effort
          8) Incorporate diversity training into your regular training plans

Not all training can occur through e-learning.  To increase awareness and knowledge trianing, many organizations still use the primary diversity training approach. This first step serves as a basic training foundation and it should be followed by skills-based training. Instead of spending time and money on changing attitudes, many companies are now focusing on changing behaviors.
